Something wasn’t right in the classroom.
Dia,* a 17-year-old student, had changed her behavior in ways that increasingly concerned her teacher. The teacher noticed that she seemed to be associating with some older men.
Fortunately, the teacher was concerned enough to talk to the school administration, who talked to the police. Law enforcement brought The Exodus Road’s India team alongside another nonprofit to help.
Our investigative team quickly determined that Dia was being trafficked by at least two older men, sold to customers for sex. Despite threats from adults in her life, Dia courageously told police everything. This allowed them to take her two traffickers into custody, and they are now searching for customers who abused this teenager.

Dia has been transferred to a safehouse where she can recover from the trauma she has endured. Her testimony, paired with her teacher’s vigilance, ultimately led to her own freedom and to her perpetrators being prevented from exploiting others.
