Preventing
Trafficking Before
It Happens
Prevention education is how we protect vulnerable people before exploitation takes hold. Through key programs in four countries and a worldwide educational reach, The Exodus Road equips children, families, and entire communities with the knowledge to recognize the tactics of traffickers and the confidence to act — before they are ever exploited.
Knowledge Is
Protection
Prevention education changes the conditions that make communities vulnerable to trafficking. When people understand the red flags of exploitation, the recruitment tactics, the false promises, and the patterns of control, they become their own first line of defense.
The Exodus Road's prevention education programs reach children, teenagers, parents, educators, and vulnerable communities across multiple countries. From digital safety for students to community-wide awareness for populations at risk of labor and sex trafficking, our programs meet people where they are and equip them with what they need to stay safe.
We help people recognize the tactics used by traffickers and predators, whether it is online exploitation, labor trafficking, or other forms of modern slavery, so they can identify danger before it becomes a crisis.
We give parents, caregivers, and community leaders practical language and conversation starters to initiate open, honest dialogue about trafficking risks with the people around them.
We don't just deliver a one-time lesson. Our programs are designed to build lasting habits of awareness, safety, and community vigilance that people carry and share throughout their lives.
Why This Work Matters
The Threat Is Growing
on Every Front
Reports of online enticement of children continue to surge globally, driven by new technology that allows predators to operate faster and at greater scale than ever before.
Forced labor accounts for the vast majority of trafficking victims worldwide. Vulnerable workers, including migrants, refugees, and those in economic distress, are routinely exploited through deceptive recruitment and debt bondage.
AI-generated digital abuse, encrypted platforms, and the accelerating pace of digital culture have intensified online risks, while traffickers continue to adapt their tactics faster than many communities can respond.
As a global nonprofit that confronts trafficking in its many forms, from online exploitation and sex trafficking to forced labor, The Exodus Road is uniquely positioned to design prevention programs that go beyond awareness and build real, lasting protection.
Built for the Communities
We Serve
Prevention education looks different depending on where we work. Each program is shaped by local context, language, and the specific threats communities face, but all share a conviction that informed people are safer people.
Influenced is The Exodus Road's flagship digital safety education program, a multi-format curriculum for teens and the adults in their lives. Through in-person workshops, classroom curriculum, and online courses, Influenced equips young people to recognize online predators, understand their digital footprint, and build lasting habits of safety.
Launched in Colorado, Influenced has since expanded into Philadelphia's Kensington neighborhood through a partnership with The Lighthouse. The Lighthouse is a community center that has served vulnerable families since 1893.
Prevention Work in Brazil
In Brazil, The Exodus Road delivers digital safety education adapted for the cultural context and online landscape Brazilian families navigate. Delivered in schools, community groups, and churches in Portuguese, the program reaches both students and the parents and caregivers in their lives.
Prevention Work in Colombia
In Colombia, The Exodus Road brings prevention education directly into schools, churches, and community organizations, equipping young people and the adults responsible for their safety to recognize and resist exploitation.
Equip & Empower is The Exodus Road's prevention education program in Thailand, a dedicated curriculum designed for children in the rural communities most vulnerable to trafficking. Working in partnership with local organizations, Equip & Empower gives children the knowledge and practical tools to recognize and resist exploitation.
Unlike the Influenced program family, Equip & Empower was built from the ground up for the specific trafficking risks present in rural Thailand, addressing both online dangers and the in-person recruitment tactics that remain prevalent across the region.
