3 women and a teenager free after being trafficked on an Indian street, their trafficker arrested!

The three young women and the 17-year-old girl had not planned for this.

They’d been promised good jobs by a local older woman who seemed trustworthy, even benevolent. Opportunities in their region were limited, so it was a hard chance to pass up. 

None of them dreamed they’d end up being sold for sex on a street in India, sent with paying customers to be exploited in a hotel.

Their supposed employer, who turned out to simply be a clever trafficker and a hustler, profited from their pain. She kept the women and the teenager she was trafficking trapped and controlled, held in one location they weren’t allowed to leave.

But an informant heard about the teenager. They knew The Exodus Road could help, so they reached out with all the information they had. Our team stepped in to take care of the rest, looping in local law enforcement partners in the process.

When our team and law enforcement arrived on the scene, they were able to free all four of those who had been exploited. The survivors were scared at first, hypervigilant and on edge after what they’d been through. But as a social worker explained that they weren’t in trouble, that they were safe now, they began sharing more about what they’d been through. They were transferred to the care of a shelter.

Meanwhile, the woman who sold these survivors on the street was arrested. Law enforcement is continuing to pursue her accomplices, ensuring no part of this illegal operation can continue.

The survivors might not have been able to foresee being trafficked — and in the depths of their exploitation, they also may have been unable to foresee freedom.
